Large 8vo.  235 x 175 mm., [9 1/4 x 7 inches].  400 pp.   Illustrated with reproductions of photographs taken especially for this volume.  Original cloth, with medallion of the Red Cross in center of the upper board and the title in gilt surrounding the image.  Binding showing some toning, hinge of upper board cracked and a bit loose; edges of paper stock turning brown.

Well-illustrated with black and white images of the destruction to towns of Southern Italy, with reports of the earthquake from Messina, Reggio Calabria, and Naples.  Some interesting descriptions of local towns before and after the quake and information on the customs of the people affected by the quakes.  Also included are eyewitness accounts and reports from survivors.  A very interesting book on the conditions in Southern Italy before and after the disaster.
