Gardens of Rome.

Fair Lawn, New Jersey: Essential Books, 1960. Item #996

8vo.  220 x 170 mm., [9 8 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches].  200 pp.  Illustrated a map of Rome and 168 heligravure images in black and white.  Bound in original gray cloth, decorative dust jacket by Yves Brayer.  Dust jacket shows minor wear to edges and at head and tail of spine, otherwise a very good copy.

Well illustrated travel book to Rome, published in 1960 when the City was in recovery mode from the impact of the War.  The focus is on the gardens, fountains, architecture, and ornamentation that distinguishes this city as "Eternal" and offers the traveler a guide to its monuments.  Very nicely printed and produced book  and the black and white heligravures are particularly effective in showing off Rome during its revitilazion. .
