First edition. Post Civil War book of poems, many of which highlight the lives of Confederate soldiers and leaders, including R. E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, and Andrew Johnson . Some are of a religious nature, and a few deign humor. The impact of the poems reflect a meloncholy for a civilization that have been lost. The wood engravings are mostly stock vignettes and show skill but little imagination.
