The lyrics of this anonymously printed hymn is attributed to Ludaemilie Elisabeth Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1640-72), the author of over 60 hymns and songs. It is the tale of a person who, after atoning for his sins finds Jesus and eternal life. Wo is Jesus mein Verlangen was extremely popular and printed at least “sixty-two times” in Germany but rarely printed in America. The hymn was put to music by Bach in his Cantata 32 Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen.
