Front cover loose, but still attached. There appears on the front flyleaf the following inscription in pencil, “This is my mother’s cook book / MCP."
Bailey writes with the authority of a cook who has seen a thing or two: “Baked beans are a very easy dish, yet few cook them well.” (pp. 27) The recipes cover myriad dishes from roasted pigeons to currant pie. The last few pages have instructions for making household necessities such as “cheap white paint” and mahogany table polish.
