Written by Samuel C. Morton of the Philadelphia Mercantile Library to John Winthrop, President of the New York Mercantile Library requesting information about the lecture program that is sponsored at NYML. Morton notes that the success of the New York program has initiated interest in the Philadelphia ML in reestablishing a lecture program for members and asks whether lecturers are given an honorarium or whether they speak for free. He also suggests that future collaboration would benefit both libraries and perhaps an exchange of speakers would be possible. Morton goes on to say that the Board of the Philadelphia Mercantile Library Company has had a change of officers and that the new group is "young" and hopeful of creating a more robust program in the future.
