Paul Hofmann (1912-2008) was an Austrian-American author, journalist and political activist. He fled to Rome in 1938 where he became involved with the Italian anti-fascist resistance before going into hiding for the remainder of World War II. Hofmann would end up staying in Rome for the rest of his life working as a reporter and later as the Rome bureau chief for the New York Times. In Roma, one of many of his works on Rome and Italy, he provides travelers with an insider’s view of the city and guides them to the attractions that he believes will give them a more discerning and curated experience.
