First Edition. Elizabeth Alice Frances (1861–1934), known after her third marriage as Aubrey Le Blond, was an Irish mountaineer, photographer and travel writer. She was a leading figure in early women’s sport, having twice ascended Mont Blanc following the birth of her son in 1880, as well as a pioneer in the emerging field of snow photography. This work on Italian gardens was inspired by a set of photographs she produced for an earlier book The art of garden design in Italy (1906) by H. Inigo Trigg's and her own extensive travels throughout Italy documented the gardens she describes within.
