First Edition. Anthony P. Campanella (1912-2002) was an Italian-American social scientist who conducted extensive research on Guisseppe Garibaldi and collected a vast library of materials related to the life and work of the Italian general and proponent of national unification. A substantial portion of these materials he donated to the University of South Carolina to form The Anthony P. Campanella Collection of Giuseppe Garibaldi. In their acknowledgement of his gift, the university refers to this two-volume bibliography as Campanella’s magnum opus among his wider scholarship. In addition to the bibliography itself, the work features an intriguing introduction, first in English and then in Italian, that attempts to explain the significance of the project in light of attempts by the Catholic Church, Italian protestants, and the Italian government to suppress research on Garibaldi.
