Publishers' black paper over boards with gilt lettering on the spine; illustrated unclipped jacket. Book is Good: moderate soiling and creasing on the covers; bumped at the corners as well as at the head and foot of the spine; flyleaf is chipped and worn along the fore-edge but otherwise the textblock remains clean. Jacket is Fair: substantial portions have been chipped, especially at the corners, edges, and at the head and foot of the spine; soiling and abrasions throughout. The front jacket and cover bear a blind stamp on the bottom-right corner with a stylized "D" above the word "DAMAGED", though no other imperfections aside from those already mentioned could be found. First Edition. Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1978), the celebrated American Catholic prelate who served on the faculty of the Catholic University of America, was consecrated Bishop in 1951 and later Archbishop in 1969, and would go on to host several wide-reaching radio and television programs, guides readers on a tour of Rome which he curated for his young nephew. The work is accompanied by a series of exemplary photographs by Armenian-Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002), who is best known for his iconic 1941 photographic portrait of Winston Churchill. These in turn are described by British travel writer H.V. Morton, whose work has focused on his journeys through the British Isles, Europe and the Levant.
