Publishers' red paper over boards with gilt lettering on the front cover and spine; deckled fore-edges and green painted bottom edge; book marker ribbon in the colors of the Italian flag; clipped jacket. Book is Fine: light discoloration and fraying at the head and foot of the spine but otherwise seemingly unread. Jacket is Good: chipped at the head of the spine and along the top edges, approximately one inch tear at the bottom of the fold over the back cover, heavy discoloration of the spine, and some light soiling and shelf wear.
First Edition. Paul Frischauer (1898-1977) studied history in Vienna and began his career writing historical novels before focusing primarily on writing non-fiction. The present work examines the life of the Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi whose campaigns would ultimately lead to the unification of Italy in the late nineteenth century. Written in a narrative style, contemporary reviewers praised the book for its captivating prose.
