Bound in contemporary brown leather spine and tips, leather title label on spine, speckled paper boards. Very good copy. Rare edition of the work on the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of hemp by Giuseppe Nuvolone Pergamo, count of Scandaluzza and vice director of the Real Società Agraria di Torino. This region of the Piedmont has a long history of farming hemp, and creating innovative products from the production, including fabric, paper, rope, fishing line and nets. Nuvolone text describes the most suitable terrain for growing hemp, the selection and sowing methods, advice on how to judge the maturity of the plants, guidelines for the maceration process and drying methods. The first of the two engraved plates depicts Nuvolone Pergamo's newly developed metal combs for carding hemp, which he had made by Stefano Pachalet. The second engraved plate depicts a loom then in use for weaving hemp canvas. ICCU (Italian Union Catalogue) cites six copies in Italy. This title is not cited in OCLC and NUC, although NUC cites two other titles on agricultural subjects by Nuvolone Pergamo, both known in one copy only. Niccoli, Vittorio.
