Pall Mall, London: Issued by the Library Committee, 1920. Item #1195 8vo. 230 x 145 mm., [9 x 6 inches]. 58, [1] pp. Bound in original blue paper wrappers; spine expertly repaired with Japanese tissue; edges of wrappers soiled. With the bookplate of J. F. Fuggles. Catalogue of a collection of mostly 19th century pamphlets collected by Antonio Panizzi (1797-1879) and given to his biographer Louis Fagan. The Reform Club as a beloved organization for Panizzi and upon the completion of his biography, Fagan presented them to Club as a gift form one of its most famous members. The pamphlets “have never been fully catalogued before, and the Library Committee considered them of sufficient importance for the history and literature of Italy to warrant the issue of this descriptive list in the hope that it may be of service to a wider circle of students of the subject than have access to the catalogue in the Club Library.” The collection contains works mostly documenting the Italian Risorgimento beginning in the early 19th century and continuing until Unification in 1860. The catalogue is fully indexed and covers subjects from the arts to women rights as they pertain to Italian struggle for statehood. The collection offers a snapshot of issues important to Panizzi during his term at the British Museum.
