New Mechanical Method for Making "Aquavita"

Nuovo metodo di fare il vino con un semplice meccanismo per privilegio di privativa memoria con delle aggiunte sulla sua utilita practica. Edizioni Seconda.

Milano: Dalla Tipografia del D. Giulio Ferrario, 1823. Item #1061

8vo. 230 x 140 mm., [9 x 5 ½ inches].  xii, 13-123 [1] pp.  Original blue paper printed wrappers; title in ink on spine; spine split at top and bottom of joint; edges folded, but a good copy in original condition.

The second edition considerably enlarged, originally published in Milan in 1822, with a text of 24 pages.  A scarce wine publication, which discusses the use of a mechanical process to produce aquavita, an archaic term used to refer to wine, the water of life.  Part history, part philosophy, and part viniculture, Grisetti describes the evolution of wine making and provides a new method which uses modern techniques and equipment to produce wines worthy of the “aquavita” made in Rome centuries earlier.  Some focus on the best vines grown in Piedmont.  Most of the text is a  step by step methods for wine production.
