Second edition of Johnson's history and loving portrait of the City of Florence, nicely printed at the University Press by John Wilson and Son, Cambridge, MA..  Virginia W. Johnson was an American writer whose travel works appeared in numerous magazine publications before her first full-length books were published.  Her insights into the art history and architecture of Florence as well as travel histories of Genoa, Lake Como, San Marino and other northern cities were well received and in some case printed in more than one edition.

In Lily of the Arno Johnson focuses on city scape with detailed descriptions of the churches, towers, architectural ornaments, and views that have infatuated writers for centuries.
