First American edition of Sommi-Picenardi's series of short stories which tell the tales of the World War I and a brigade of Alpine soldiers who patrolled and engaged in combat in the Austrian/Italian Alps.  "The stories are realistic documents -- given by one who has lived them -- in which are mingled the vast drama of nations and the lesser drama of individuals thrown by ware into startlingly significant relationships."
